Edition decorated with a portrait of the author, a portrait of the Marquis de Castelnau and nearly 400 coats of arms engraved in intaglio in the text. According to Brunet, this is the most complete edition.
Michel de Castelnau (1518-1592), a diplomat and man of war, was entrusted with numerous diplomatic missions, notably in Scotland to Mary Stuart and in England to Queen Elizabeth. His Memoirs are an important source for the history of the early Wars of Religion.
