Epitome du thresor des antiquitez, i.e., Pourtraits des vrayes Medailles des Empp. tant d'Orient que d'Occident. Lyon, Jacques de Strada and Thomas Guérin, 1553. In-4, tortoiseshell calf, triple fillet, gilt fleuron at the corners, ornate smooth spine, interior roulette, marbled edges (18th century binding).
First edition of the French translation of this work by the Italian antiquarian Jacopo Strada (Baudrier, X, 365-366; Mortimer, no. 503).
Abundant wood-engraved illustrations in the text, including more than 450 medals with effigies of emperors on a black background, executed by Bernard Salomon.
From the Arthur Dinaux library, with his tiny handwritten bookplate on the first endpaper. A handwritten bookplate on a flyleaf and a modern bookplate.
Title repaired at head (handwritten ex-libris cut out) and lined at bottom of endpaper, with small stains. Upper hinge and headpieces restored.
