Gothic folio, havana half-bassane over aisles, remains of chased brass clasps, gouge-engraved inscription EPE OIDII on second board, three large ribbed spine, title in ink throughout (Binding of the period).
Beautiful Gothic edition of Terence's Comedies, with several commentaries by Guy Jouenneaux, Bade and Donat.
It is decorated on the title with an ornate frame of dolphins and stylised foliage, with a woodcut signed FV in the centre depicting Saint George slaying the dragon, a superb full-page woodcut showing the authors and several small vignettes in the text illustrating the scenes with precision, each character being accompanied by his or her name in abbreviated form.
Old handwritten bookplate on title, partly crossed out; printed bookplate Urbis Genio Joannis Darius, and engraved bookplate dated 1722: Hieronymi Venerii Equitis ac procuratoris prasidis cura.
Worm damage in the margins of several leaves, some wetness. The title leaf is soiled and shows tears and traces of folds. Very worn binding.
