ADAMS G-644. Dedicated to François de Médicis. 128 wood-engraved portraits by Tobias Stimmer, surrounded by baroque frames, ten of which are empty. This edition, the first to be illustrated, has long served as an iconographic source, particularly for certain portraits. It was this edition that truly revealed the treasures gathered in the palace built by the author on the shores of Lake Como. The publisher Pierre Perna had the idea of having the most important portraits of the men of war gathered in this museum engraved.
