Description
HUTTICH, Johann - Imperatorum et Caesarum Vitae, cum Imaginibus ad viuam effigiem expressis. Libellus auctus cum elencho & Iconiis Consulum ab Authore . Strasbourg, Wolfgang Köpfel, 1534. In-8, (8) ff, 89 ff, (1) f. printer's mark, (14/16) ff, missing 2 ff. in the consuls' section, old annotations, underlining, provenance crossed out on title page, several light spots, ivory vellum with covers. BRUNET III, 392. RITTER II, n°1237. FAIRFAX MURRAY n°219. Titles of both parts in a frame. The illustration consists of borders, bands sometimes illustrated, and for the emperors of 268 medals with effigies on black background, mostly by Hans Weiditz. Ranges from Julius Caesar to Francis I. Huttich was born in Mainz around 1480, was an antiquarian and numismatist, and was canon of Strasburg Cathedral in 1530, dying in 1540.
