Cat. PICOT II, 1069. First edition of the author's first collection of poems. There are copies either dated 1552 or like this one 1553, the preface addressed to Jean Brinon being dated 24 November 1552. Marc Antoine Muret (1526-1585) was teaching at the Collège de Boncourt at the time and had links with the authors of the Pléiade, in particular Jean-Antoine de
Baïf, who contributed three introductory poems to the collection. There are also plays by Denisot, Jean Dorat and Etienne Jodelle. The collection contains a tragedy on the death of Julius Caesar, which Jacques Grévin was accused of plagiarising, elegies, satires, epigrams, epistles and odes. He consecrated his burgeoning fame, with Ronsard dedicating his poem Les Isles Fortunées to him, and the same year Muret adding a commentary to the 2nd ed. of Les Amours published in 1552. Bookplate of the genealogist and historian Henry Le Court (1849-1821). (RÉGNIER, Mathurin - Les Satyres du Sieur Régnier. Dern. éd. revue, corrigée &

The author, who claims to be a native of Evreux and a professor at the Collège du Plessis, dedicated the Triumphus to Jean-Paul Lejau (1570-161) vicar-general to the bishop of Evreux. One of his pupils, Micjel Duval, delivered it at the college in 1614.
