First edition. Romanticised history of this ligueur who made peace with Henri IV in exchange for a marshal's baton. This is the most popular of the accounts devoted to Père Ange (the religious name of the Duc de Joyeuse) which, according to Brémond (II, 146), is more of a novel than a history. Father Angel had previously inspired devout humanism. Phiippe d'Angoumois, one of the co-founders of the Company of the Blessed Sacrament, devoted a work of over 1000 pp. to him: Triomphe de l'Amour. Triomphe de l'Amour divin dans la conversion d'Hermogène (le Duc de Joyeuse), Paris, 1625.
