Description
In-12, (8) ff, 514, 120 pp, contemporary ivory vellum.
WILLEMS 852. SHF 1602. Contains with a separate pagination the account of the death of the Maréchal d'Ancre (Concino Concini). This account was long attributed to the Keeper of the Seals, Michel de Marillac: according to a note found in the Foreign Archives (France, 364, f° 90 recto), the true author was Cadenet, Marshal Duc de Chaulnes, brother of the future Duc de Luynes. As Cadenet was involved in the events leading up to Concini's assassination, his account is very accurate. He tells the story with impartiality and picturesqueness: the details he provides are invaluable and his account is a first-rate document.
