First edition published the same year as the Provinciales. Fathers Nouet and Annat were commissioned to refute the Provinciales, which they follow in lengthy commentaries. They have appended a number of documents relating to the quarrel. In a preliminary letter, Father Nouet insinuated that the spirit of the Provinciales was not unrelated to the work of the Protestant minister Pierre Du Moulin: Des Traditions et de la perfection et suffisance de l'Escriture Saincte published in Geneva in 1632.
