Jean Juvénal Des Ursins,... brought to light by Théodore Godefroy. Paris, Abraham Pacard, 1614. At the end of the preface is a quatrain in Latin by Michel de l'Hôpital addressed to the Cardinal de Tournon in which he declares that he is no less charmed by the reading of French historians than by that of the ancient Greeks. Jouvenel des Ursins (1388-1473), archbishop of Bourges, councillor at the Châtelet, provost of merchants and president of the Poitiers parliament, witnessed and often played a part in the events he recounts. He was sometimes critical, for example of the behaviour of the impetuous youth at the Battle of Azincourt. Idem, 16 pp. This booklet was sold separately and is added here. Handwritten bookplate from Montesquieu's library: ''Ex biblioth. D. praesidis Montesquieu. Cat. inscript.''
