Circular letter sent by the king to all governors of the kingdom of France (sic). Paris, 1649, 8 pages. MOREAU 1827. Dated Saint-Germain 30 September 1647 (48), and countersigned Phelippeaux. Account of everything that happened from the emotion of 26 August 1648 to the conferences of the Parlement with the princes, in Saint-Germain.
- Letter of reproach from the Queen to Cardinal Mazarin on her repentance for having loved him (S. 1.), 1649, 6 pages. MOREAU 2051.This letter seems to promise scandal; and it would be quite innocent, except that it is stupidly violent. It has been reprinted under the title Lettre de la reine envoyée au cardinal Mazarin, etc.
- Letter from Cardinal Mazarin to the Most Serene Archduke Leopold, together with that from M. de La Tour, Governor of Arras, to Monseigneur le Prince de Conty. Paris, 1649, 4 pages. MOREAU 2095. Dated 14 and 17 January. False and supposed (Mascurat, p. 15).
Paris, 1649, 7 pages. MOREAU 3010. From 6 January to 15 January. There is another very badly printed edition which is only 4 pages long, and another of 4 pages in-12, s. 1. n. d.
Paris, Jean Brunet, 1649, 24 pages. MOREAU 3312. Signed D. B. The play is divided into three parts with subtitles; one for each state, the clergy, the nobility and the people. It is especially remarkable for its style; but it contains neither a fact nor an anecdote. See Le Conseiller fidèle. (S. 1., 1648), 8 pages. MOREAU 3494. The text indicates that there are several editions of a pamphleteer's petition, of which the 1648 edition is the rarest. This work aroused opposing judgements: some, like Naudé, esteemed it, while others, like Mailly, strongly condemned it for its attacks on Cardinal Mazarin. He also points out that the printer was punished for its publication, proof of the polemical nature of the text. Finally, the request, attributed to the States of Île-de-France but speaking on behalf of other provinces, was even translated into Dutch, which shows how widespread it was.
One of the first plays of the Fronde, and not the most common. MOREAU 3511.
- Satyrique (le), ou le Mazarin métamorphosé. Paris, François Noël, 1649. MOREAU 3596. Two parts, of 7 pages each. The second, entitled: Seconde partie du Satyre, ou le Mazarin métamorphosé, in burlesque verse, was published by Sébastien Martin.
Paris, Cardin Besongne, 1649. MOREAU 2427. This text is an important pamphlet from the Fronde period, setting out political and religious principles on royal authority and the duties of subjects, while admitting certain limits to power. It is highly critical of Mazarin and calls for his removal, prompting opposing views on the work. Despite speculation, its author remains uncertain, but the work is considered influential.
Rouen, 1649, 7 pages. MOREAU 3750. bad verses, but the most violent I have encountered.
- Trahisons (les) découvertes, ou le Peuple vendu. (S. 1., 1649), 7 pages. MOREAU 3794. The text describes a very violent pamphlet dating from the period of the Ruel conferences, attacking the Parliament, the Queen and several major political figures. The author makes threats and insults against various aristocratic and powerful figures. He also mentions another, more elaborate edition of the pamphlet, dating from 1649, which adds stanzas and a satirical song aimed at several princes and soldiers, in an even more mocking and accusatory tone.
- Discours important sur le gouvernement de ce royaume, dedicated to the queen regent. Paris, Mus-nier widow, 1649, 14 pages. MOREAU 1126. Some interesting details on the forms of government.
MOREAU 1083. After the peace; for Paris says: I will feed him within me, if he wants to return. The author draws a parallel between Richelieu and Mazarin; and among his reasons for preferring the former, he does not fail to give this one: that Richelieu was a gentleman. He speaks of a pamphlet against Concini, the Faits du marquis d'Ancre. It was, he says, a sheet of white paper, folded in four, which was sold under the cloak. He adds that the same could be said of Mazarin.
MOREAU 797. Le Coq à l'asne is one of the wittiest plays of the Fronde. It was reprinted, in 1649, under the title of: Lettre d'un inconnu, etc
