Description
SILVESTRE, Israël] - Praefectorum castrorum, et quinque turmarum ex ingenti area, quae Vindocinensi Palatio adjacet, usque ad Amphitheatri aditum incessus. (Paris, 1664?). In-4 oblong, title and 7 double-page engraved plates, boards, laid paper. Edition unknown to Brunet, Ruggieri, Faucheux (Catalogue de toutes les estampes d'israël Silvestre), Saffroy, etc. The carrousel of Louis XIV took place on 5 and 6 June 1662 to celebrate the birth of the dauphin. The cavalcade of five quadrilles, which was to take place through the streets of Paris, started in front of the Hôtel de Vendôme and ended at the amphitheatre specially built at the Tuileries. Saffroy cites a French edition of the play, which he has not seen, dated 1662. The Latin edition was intended for foreigners. The plates by Israël Silvestre were included in an edition describing all the festivities published in 1670 under the title Courses de testes et de bague, with a preface by Perrault.
