First edition dedicated to Cardinal de Retz. Charles Beys (1610-1659) was a friend of Colletet and Scarron. He was imprisoned in the Bastille on suspicion of writing against Richelieu. His most famous comedy is L'Hôpital des fous (1635). Sentimental intrigues in which the heroine's lover becomes jealous of a false rival whom he himself has introduced to his mistress.
