Description
BEYS, Charles - Les Odes d'Horace en vers burlesques. Paris, Toussainct Quinet, 1653. In-4, (4) ff, first blank, 115 (1) pp, some light spotting, contemporary fawn marbled calf, spine ribbed and gilt tooled, upper headband intact.
Exists at the date of 1652. Friend of Saint-Amant, Tristan, the two Colletet, de Scudéry, Gilbert and Scarron, died in 1659. He cultivated both the Latin and French Muses and was put in the Bastille for having published a libel against Richelieu. With the coat of arms of Lefèvre de Caumartin (1653-1720) Intendant des Finances and Conseiller d'Etat (OHR 651 fer n°2). He left a remarkable library in terms of both the choice of works and the beauty of the bindings.
