He had belonged to the literary circles of Antoine Brun and Piat Maucors and entered the service of Cardinal de Richelieu. He had the reputation of being a bon vivant. Like the first edition (1632), this second edition was dedicated to Cardinal de Richelieu. The play was successful enough to be performed until 1640 and features in Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac.
