Colletet (1598-1659) was one of the very first members of the Académie française. He had belonged to the literary circles of Antoine Brun and Piat Maucors and entered the service of Cardinal de Richelieu. He had the reputation of being a bon vivant. The Divertissements contain elegies, stanzas, odes and sonnets on the events of the time, on his own adventures, on wine, love, etc.'' (Viollet Le Duc). (Viollet Le Duc). (Rel. à la suite:) BARO, Balthazar - La Clorise. Pastoralle. Paris, Anthoine de Sommaville, 1634. Title-front, (5) ff. 139 pp. Baro (Valence 1590 ? - Paris 1650) was secretary to Honoré d'Urfé, whose fourth part of the Astrée he published and to which he added a fifth of his own. Like the first edition (1632), this second edition was dedicated to Cardinal de Richelieu. The play was successful enough to be performed until 1640 and features in Edmond Rostand's Cyrano de Bergerac. Like most of his contemporaries, who wrote pastorals, the subject was borrowed from the Astrée. Baro transposes the story of Celion and Bellinde -- AUVRAY, Jean - La Madonte. Tragi-comedy dedicated to the Queen. Antoine de Sommaville, 1632, (6) ff, 143 pp, some ff. browned. Second edition, first in 1631. The actors at the Hôtel de Bourgogne had been rehearsing this play since 1628. A Parisian playwright sometimes confused with the Rouen author of Banquet des Muses (1623), Auvray is said to have been a lawyer, a friend of Du Ryer and an enemy of Hardy. The play is based on several episodes taken from the Astrée, some of which are over-emphasised and others shortened.
