LORME, Thomas de - La Muse nouvelle, ou les divertissements agréables du Parnasse. Lyon, Charles Mathevet, 1665. pet. in-12, portrait, frontispiece, (12) ff, 269 pp. and (8) ff. in contemporary morocco, spine ribbed, int. dent, gilt tr. (BELLEVALLÉE).
VIOLLET-LE-DUC 522. ROCHAS (Biog. du Dauphiné) I, 310. LACHÈVRE IV, 146. First edition of the author's only poetic essay. Thomas de Lorme (La Côte Saint André circa 1642- Grenoble 1724), from a family of doctors and apothecaries, studied at the college of Vienne around 1657. His teacher was Father Ménestrier and he was encouraged by Boissat in his poetic career. His early verses, most of which were written at the college, are not lacking in grace. He begins with a portrait of himself, followed by satires and gallant pieces. Two of these poems are dedicated to Nicolas Chorier and Boissat. He was a friend of Le Pays, author of the famous Amitiés, amours et amourettes (Grenoble, 1664). De Lorme later became a lawyer at the Grenoble parliament.
