Description
MONTFLEURY, Antoine Jacob - L'Escole des Filles, comedy. Représentée sur le Theatre Royal de l'Hostel de Bourgongne. Paris, N. Pepingué, 1666. In-12, (5) ff, first blank missing, 107 pp,
SOLEINNE no. 1343. DE BACKER 859, ''Very rare first edition''. Montfleury was the son of the famous comedian of the Hôtel de Bourgogne. A successful author and rival of Molière, he had found himself at the centre of the quarrel directed against l'Escole des femmes (1663). His play bears little resemblance to this one. The action takes place in Toledo in the style of Spanish comedies: jealousies, rivalries in love, a duel scene.
