NOÉ, Michel - Several Enigmas, or Enigmatic Descriptions. Leeuwarden, Henry Rintius, 1684. In-16, front cover, (7) ff, 171, (5) pp, trimmed a little short, bradel ivory vellum, smooth spine decorated and titled in pen.
First edition dedicated to Henriette-Amélie d'Anhalt-Dessau wife of the stathouder of Drenthe Henri Casisimir II. Michel Noé, a Reformed writer born in Orléans, was a lector at the young Walloon church in Leeuwarden. Collections of riddles had been brought into fashion by Abbé Cotin, who published one in 1645, often reprinted. The 160 riddles are written in verse. The last five pages give the solutions. Ex-libris Frédéric Lachèvre.
