LEVER 264 (year 1690). Edition not cited in Tchémerzine-Scheler which only describes the original (1690). Second edition of these memoirs, a presentation in an elegant and easy style of the manners, political and social life at Court. Like the historical novels in vogue at the time, they were a huge success. It is thought that the future author of fairy tales was in Spain in 1679, where she had come to join her mother, an adventurer in the pay of the government. V. Hugo drew on them more than once for Hernani and Ruy Blas, and they were much admired by Taine and Barbey d'Aurevilly.
