ROCHEBILIÈRE 659. A Carthusian known under the pseudonyms of Moncade or Vigneul-Marville, Bonaventure d'Argonne died in 1704 at the Chartreuse de Gaillon. His Mélanges de littérature (3 vols., 1701) is full of curious and hazardous anecdotes. Voltaire called him "the only Carthusian who cultivated literature". Contested criticism of La Bruyère's Caractères which earned him a reply from P.-J. Brillon (1631-1710) Intendant General to the Duke of Maine who had frequented La Bruyère. Stamp of Gustave Mouravit.
