BOUHOURS, Père, s. j.] - Ingenious Thoughts of the Ancients and the Moderns. Paris, Veuve de Séb. Cramoisy, 1689. In-12, VI, 486 pp, (14) ff, paper a little yellowed, contemporary brown marbled calf, spine ribbed and decorated, coat of arms on boards.
First edition. Compilation of extracts from ancient and modern authors which Bouhours had not used for the Manière de bien penser (1687) and of which there is a table at the end. It is a literary pantheon in which Pascal is regrettably absent. With the arms of the college of Chalon-sur-Saône (V. OHR pl. n°1051).
