CHOISY, François Timoléon, Abbé de - Mémoires pour servir à l'histoire de Louis XIV (to the sphere). Utrecht, Wan-de-Vater, 1727. In-12, (1) f., 515 pp. slightly yellowed paper, brown granite calf, spine ribbed and decorated.
SHF 832. Memoirs published by D. Fr. Camusat. They consist of a series of disjointed fragments, dating from different periods and covering the period from the death of Mazarin to 1686. He reports curious facts gleaned from conversations with courtiers. He remained in contact with Turenne and Condé, Pomponne and Croissy and relies on Dangeau's as yet unpublished diary. It was by questioning what he irreverently calls the "old repertoires" that he composed these memoirs, full of gossip, anecdotes and bon mots expressed with lightness and wit.
