Description
PERRAULT, Charles - Mémoires de Charles Perrault, de l'Académie française, et premier Commis des bâtimens du Roi. Contenant beaucoup de particularités et anecdotes intéressantes du ministère de M. Colbert. Avignon, 1759. In-12, (2) ff, 204 pp, paper a little yellowed, spotted tawny calf, smooth spine decorated.
TCH V, 186. SHF 849. First edition published by the architect Pierre Patte. Colbert's collaborator for buildings, a diligent and wise intermediary between this sometimes not very encouraging minister and the artists, Perrault was aware of all the art undertakings. His information on the buildings of the Louvre and the plans of the cavalier Bernini, and on the construction of the Observatory, is first-rate: he appears to have had a great independence of spirit, a taste for novelty and a contempt for routine.
