Description
JOUIN, Nicolas] - Les Préjugés démasqués En vers patois sarcelois. Portmahon (Paris ?), 1756. In-12, (4) ff, 94 pp, ochre half-marble, smooth spine grotesquely decorated (HONNELAÎTRE).
First edition. The author, a jeweller born in Chartres in 1684, was a banker in Paris where he died in 1757. A Jansenist pamphleteer, he had been imprisoned two years earlier because of a number of rhymed harangues called "les sarcellades", in which he used satire to make very serious arguments against the enemies of the Jansenists. As usual, he used the dialect of the Paris region. The address ''Portmahon'' refers to the capture of the island of Minorca by the French on 29 June 1756 against the English.
