Description
MANUSCRIT] - Meslanges de Poésies. S. l., c. 1731. In-4, (1) f., 455 pp, (23) ff. (table) ; (18) ff. (additions), contemporary brown calf, spine ribbed and ornamented, engraved frontispiece on front cover.
Compilation of sonnets, tales, epitaphs, epigrams, epistles, rondeaux, etc., sometimes with their authors indicated. Sometimes their authors are indicated: Chaulieu, Boileau, Ferrand, Pavillon, Duc de Nevers (Contre la Phèdre de Racine, p. 321), Mme Deshoulières,Tierceville, J. B. Rousseau, La Monnoye, Catherine Bernard, Chapelle, etc. The presence of two tales by Jacques Vergier without an author's name: L'Enfant de cinq mois (p. 234) and Le Rossignol (p. 304), places this compilation around 1731, the date when they appeared in the Oeuvres diverses. The compiler sometimes mentions that the pieces were printed, which suggests that many of them are unpublished. Most of them have a libertine content, such as : L'origine du petit bout des tetons (p. 109) - Sur la Métamorphose du cul d'Iris en astre par Mr Pavillon (p. 226) - Sur l'impuissance de Mr de Gesvres (p. 243). Some were only able to circulate under the cloak, such as Les Sodomites : Quand tu punis les Sodomites // Grand Dieu, ton courroux fust trop vite// Et ta colère t'aveugla//Ton feu n'étoit pas nécessaire//Pour détruire ce peuple là//Tu n'avois qu'à les laisser faire. (p. 63) - Stance sur les Sodomites (p. 162) - or because of their political character: Placet des Religionnaires au Roy par le Ministre Claude pour empêcher la révocation de l'édit de Nantes (pp. 450-454). Provenance Montaigu, transcribed mont-aigu on the title page.
