Description
In-12, (4) ff, portrait of the queen engraved by Lambertus Cause, 459 (1) pp, (8) ff, a second proof of the portrait has been added to the front, yellowed paper, contemporary roots, spine ribbed and decorated.
TCH IV, 398. This edition contains in addition: l'Eloge de la reine by Brantôme, L'Eloge de Bussy (d'Amboise) by Brantôme and la Fortune de la Cour by P. Dampmartin first published in 1585. The author, initially attached to Jeanne d'Albret, was Attorney General to the Duke of Alençon and Governor of Montpellier under Henry IV. His book is one of the rare accounts of the court of the Duke of Alençon, brother of Henry III. Contemporaries readily associated it with the memoirs of Queen Marguerite. Ex-libris Laurent de Crozet and Amédée de Crozet.
