Description
POINSINET DE SIVRY] - La Berlue. London, A l'Enseigne du Lynx (Paris), 1759. In-16, 166 pp. half-marble red bradel, gilt head.
The Grimm-Diderot correspondence judges this work severely: "La berlue c'est le titre du livre et la maladie de l'auteur. This man protests that he has read nothing, and you can see it in his judgments. It is a satire of all peoples, all states, all individuals, but without finesse, without force, without wit and without taste...". It was nevertheless republished several times and was even condemned in 1826 (see Drujon p. 48). Grimod de la Reynière is accused of having entirely plagiarised La Berlue in his Lorgnette philosophique published in 1785. Ex-libris grav. Paul Lacombe.
