BOIARDO (Matteo Maria). The Story of Roland the Lover, including his Feats of Arms and Love Affairs. Translated into French from the Italian by Lord Matthieu-Marie Bayard, Count of Scandian, by Mr Jacques Vincent... Paris, Claude Micard, 1578. 12mo, brown calfskin, covers decorated in the style of 16th-century bindings, spine with ornate raised bands, gilt edges, bordered slipcase (Devauchelle). 12 unnumbered folios, 468 folios. The translation of *Roland l’Amoureux* had been published in 1549–1550 in three folio volumes. This new edition, printed by Jean d’Ongoys for Claude Micard, is illustrated with 26 woodcuts within the text—some of which are repeated—and numerous ornate initials. A fine copy in a spectacular Devauchelle-style pastiche binding.
