Description
NODOT (François). The Story of Melusine, drawn from the chronicles of Poitou and serving as the origin of the ancient House of Lusignan. Paris, Claude Barbin and Thomas Moette, 1698. In-12, speckled brown calfskin, decorated spine (contemporary binding). Frontispiece signed by Guérard, 9 leaves (title page, dedicatory epistle with vignette, preface and table of contents), 271 pp., 1 p. of privilege.

This is an adaptation of *Mélusine*, a fairy tale written in the 13th century by Jean d’Arras. The fairy Mélusine, condemned to be transformed into a serpent, is said to be the progenitor of the Lusignan family of Poitou, for whom she is said to have had the castle built by magic.
A complete copy featuring the beautiful frontispiece, which is often missing.
