The Admirable History of the Knight of the Sun, or the Immortal Feats of this Invincible Warrior and his Brother Rosiclair, Sons of the Great Emperor of Constantinople (...). Paris, Mathieu Guillemot, 1626–1643. 8 volumes, small 8vo, fawn calfskin, decorated spines, red edges (18th-century binding). 10 ff., 666 pp. – 8 ff., 418 ff. – Title page, 340 pp., 5 pp. (table of contents) – 4 pp., 314 ff., 3 ff. – 4 ff., 414 ff., 3 ff. table – 4 ff., 299 ff., 2 ff. table – 4 ff., 347 ff., 3 ff. table – 4 ff., 370 ff., 2 ff. table. A translation of the famous Spanish chivalric novel by Diego Orthuñes de Calahorra entitled *Espejo de principios y caballeros*, published in Zaragoza in 1562.  Only the first volume was translated by Rosset. It was published in 1617. In this copy, it is dated 1643. The second volume, dated 1620, is a first edition. Volumes 2 to 8 were translated by Louis Douet (Rosset having died in 1619). The subsequent volumes are dated 1626, except for volume 4, which is a reprint from 1633. Volume 3 was incomplete, missing the title page and folio 23. These have been replaced with photocopies from the 1633 edition. *Le chevalier du Soleil* was found in Don Quixote’s library. A copy well bound in the 18th century.
