SONAN (Arthur de BIARD, Sieur de). Chriserionte of Gaul. A memorable history newly and miraculously discovered in the Holy Land. Lyon, Barthélemy Vincent, 1620. In-8, red morocco, framed with a gilt fillet, ribbed spine with gilt decoration, gilt interior edging, gilt edges (Duru 1854). 4 ff., 225 pp., (9 pp.). A very rare first edition of this chivalric novel. The author, a native of the Dauphiné region, was one of the Hundred Gentlemen of the King’s Household; he dedicated numerous verses to Desportes, Beroalde de Verville and others. His novel is an imitation of one of the novels from the Amadis cycle. From the library of Eugène Chaper, a bibliophile from Grenoble (1827–1890), with bookplate. A fine copy. Lever p. 104.
