Paris, Beugnié, 1724. 2 volumes in one small 8vo volume, brown calfskin, ribbed spine decorated with gilt panels and fleurons, title label in red morocco, marbled edges (contemporary binding). 4 folios, 300 pages – title page, 354 pages, 3 folios of privileges. First edition of this romantic novel in the Anglophile vein, whose author remains anonymous. In the Dedication to the Ladies, the author states that he translated it from Italian and claims that ‘Corneille drew the story of Rodrigue from it, and composed *Le Cid* from it’. A rare work.
