Description
BIONDI (Giovanni Francesco). *L’Eromene*. Paris, A. Courbé, 1633. 2 parts in one in-4 volume, brown calfskin, ribbed spine, marbled edges (contemporary binding). 4 unnumbered folios, 286 pp.; 268 pp., 2 folios (including 1 blank). A very rare first edition of the French translation of a novel published in Rome in 1631. The translation is by Pierre d’Audiguier.  Illustrations by Daniel Rabel, engraved with a burin by Michel Lasne. The edition normally comprises 2 frontispieces and 6 plates; this copy is missing one frontispiece and one plate, whilst another plate is duplicated.  From the library of the Countess de Courtils, with a coat-of-arms bookplate; subsequently from that of Roger Paultre (1993, no. 24), with a bookplate.
