[MAILLY (Chevalier de)]. Anecdote, or Secret History of the Vestal Virgins. Paris, Cavelier, 1700. 12mo, brown calfskin, coat of arms (18th-century binding). 234 pp., 3ff.  First edition. Copy bearing the coat of arms of Madeleine-Angélique de Neufville de Villeroy, Duchess of Boufflers. Born in 1707, Marie-Angélique de Neufville de Villeroy married the Duke of Boufflers in 1721. After becoming a widow, she married Ch. A. F. F. de Montmorency, known as the Marshal of Luxembourg, in 1750. It was she who welcomed Jean-Jacques Rousseau to Montmorency.
