PÉREZ DE MONTALBAN (Juan). *The Prodigious Triumphs of Love, or a True Account of Eight New Arrivals in Madrid*… Paris, P. Rocolet, 1645. In-8, marbled brown calfskin, framed by a triple gilt rule, coat of arms in the centre of the covers, decorated ribbed spine, marbled edges (contemporary binding). 2 ff., 816 pp. Second edition of Daniel de Rampale’s translation; the first had appeared the previous year from the same publisher but under a different title. *Les Sucesos y prodigios de amor en ocho novelas...* had been the subject of numerous editions, counterfeits, translations and imitations since its first publication in 1628. A copy bearing the coat of arms of Jeanne d’Albert de Luynes, Countess of Verrue, with the inscription ‘Meudon’ above the coat of arms and, on the spine, elements of her alternate coat of arms.  Green-glazed paper with a tear but no loss of text on pages 129–145, a few tears in the margins and some faint water stains.
