SOMEIRE (Sieur de). *L'Amour innocent ou l'illustre cavalier*. Paris, Denis Thiery, 1651. Quarto, red morocco, gilt fillet binding, coat of arms on the covers, decorated spine, gilt endpapers, gilt edges, slipcase (Devauchelle). Frontispiece, 19 folios, 501 pages.  An exceedingly rare first edition of this curious devotional and mystical novel in which the hero falls in love with the Blessed Virgin. In the *Bulletin du biblioph. * (January 1859, no. 410), Techener already emphasised the remarkable rarity of the work: “Mr de Someire’s work is so rare that we have not found it in any catalogue”. A fine copy with wide margins, produced by Devauchelle. It is complete with the rare frontispiece. Lever p. 43.
