BALZAC (Jean-Louis de). Selected Letters of the Sieur de Balzac. Part Two. Paris, Courbé, 1647. Large 8vo, vellum (contemporary binding). Title page with vignette, 683 pp., 17 pp.  This is the second part only of this edition of Balzac’s letters. This precious volume belonged to François de La Rochefoucauld (1613–1680), the author of the Maxims. The lower margin of the title page bears his autograph signature. The book was presented to Edmée de La Rochefoucauld (1917–1991) by Christian Dédeyan (1910–2000) on 30 December 1953 with the following dedication in pencil: To Her Ladyship the Duchess of La Rochefoucauld, this book which rightfully belongs to her, since it bears, beneath its title, the signature of a member of her House. One of the letters in the volume (pp. 99–102) is addressed to the Duke of La Rochefoucauld. A fresh copy, with generous margins. Tchemérzine, I, p. 415.
