BONTEMPS (Gérard). *La Gallerie des curieux*, containing, in various panels, the masterpieces of the most excellent satirists of this century. Paris, Cardin Besongne, 1646. 2 parts in one in-8 volume, brown calfskin, decorated spine (Modern binding imitating an 18th-century style). 8 folios, 320 pp. – Title: *Bouquet recreatif cueilly dans les Parterres des bons railleurs* (A Recreational Bouquet Gathered from the Flowerbeds of the Fine Satirists), id., ibid., 1646; 48 pp.
First edition of a collection that was subsequently reprinted several times under different titles. It is a series of vignettes dedicated ‘to melancholic minds to cure their bad temper: The grotesque courtier, the lovesick fool, the emblematic portrait of Cupid, the portrait of Beauty or the matches of Love, the portrait of ugliness, the ecstasy of love, the portrait of the charlatan, the kitchen warrior, the noble villain, the hypochondriac secretary’s facetious letters”, etc. The second part is entitled *A Recreational Bouquet Gathered from the Flowerbeds of the Good Mockers*. Ibid., 1646.
At the front of the volume, before the title page, there is a leaf that does not belong to any of the volume’s quires. It is a table of the various scenes.
