[LA MOTHE LE VAYER (François de)]. *Prose chagrine*. This little-known work preceded by ten years the rustic *Hexaméron* for which the author is best known. A sceptical philosopher endowed with boundless curiosity, La Mothe Le Vayer was appointed by Mazarin to be the tutor to Louis XIV, whose education was entrusted to him, despite the opposition of Anne of Austria, from 1652 to 1660.  The book is rare. Brunet was unaware of it. A fine copy from the Frédéric Lachèvre library (1957, no. 420), with an ex-libris. Tchemerzine VII, p. 6.
