Title-frontispiece, 20 ff., 341 pp. First edition. A diatribe against Father Goulu, General of the Feuillants, concerning his dispute with Balzac and with La Motte-Aigron, author of a defence of Balzac. The preliminary leaves contain a long dedication in Latin to Abraham de La Motte-Aigron, the author’s father, who had been called an apothecary by Father Goulu. A warning and a sarcastic Latin poem in which Goulu is referred to as Pantophagus (the glutton). At the end, Mr de La Motte-Aigron’s Preface on Balzac’s works has been bound in.
