Description
LESFARGUES (Bernard). *David*, a heroic poem dedicated to His Grace the Chancellor. Paris, Pierre Lamy, 1660. Small 12mo, black morocco, embossed with cold-stamped fillets and fleurons, ribbed spine, gilded monogram with crown, gilded interior lace, gilt edges (Cuyls). 12 unnumbered folios, 322 pages, 12 folios. A very rare first edition, featuring a frontispiece and eight full-page engraved illustrations by François Chauveau. “ (...) Poor Lesfargues has been mentioned by no biographer, and his *David* has become so rare, or at least so difficult to find, that it is almost as if it had never been published,” according to Viollet Le Duc. A fine copy from the Roger Paultre Library (1993, no. 173), with an ex-libris. Viollet Le Duc, pp. 490–500.
