Description
PRADON (Nicolas). The Works of Mr Pradon. Based on the edition printed in Paris and Amsterdam by Antoine Schelte, 1695. Small 12mo, green morocco, gilt fillet binding, plain spine with gilt decoration, gilt edges (19th-century binding). Elzevirian edition of Pradon’s plays (Rouen, 1632 – Paris, 1698). It contains six plays, each with separate pagination: Pyramus and Thisbe – Phaedra and Hippolytus – Tamerlane or the Death of Bajazet – The Trojan Women – Statira – Regulus.  Frontispiece and 6 engraved illustrations. Only the first play is dated 1695; the second, third and fourth are dated 1679; the fifth is dated 1680; and the last is dated 1688. ‘The 1688 edition of *Regulus* is not present in all copies. In some other copies, the first play, *Pyramus and Thisbe*, is dated 1695 (as in this copy)’ Willems 1959. A fine copy in a delicate, unsigned binding.
