Description
[ROQUELAURE (Gaston-Jean-Baptiste, Duke of)]. Roger Bontems in Good Cheer. Offering the sad and the afflicted a means of banishing their troubles, and the cheerful the secret to living always content. New edition, considerably expanded. Cologne, Pierre Marteau (Holland), n.d. (c. 1672). 2 folios in one in-12 volume, marbled brown calfskin, decorated spine, red edges (18th-century binding). 2 ff., 240 pp. – 2 ff., 232 pp.  A new edition of a collection that had previously been published by the same publisher in 1670 (in a single volume). Gay III, 1028: ‘The finest, if not the best, of this sort of collection’ Lever, p. 373. According to Barbier IV, 374: ‘It is highly probable that Roquelaure is no more the author of this collection of jests than of the *Momus françois*’. He adds that it could be the work of Sieur Le Roy, the notorious plagiarist.
