CORNEILLE (Pierre). *The Imitation of Christ* in verse… New expanded edition including other spiritual poems by the same author… Nancy, Abel-Denys Cusson, 1745. Quarto, brown calfskin, covers decorated with embossed leather depicting a bird catching a large fly and flowering branches tinted in gold on a red background of striated lozenges, decorated spine (contemporary binding). An edition dedicated by the Nancy-based printer A. D. Cusson to Princess Anne-Charlotte of Lorraine, Abbess of Remiremont.  4 separate engravings by Quirijn Forbonne, an engraver of Dutch origin who worked in Paris, Strasbourg and Nancy.  Margins and lower corners severely damaged by waterstain and wormholes affecting half the volume. An unusual binding with embossed and chiselled decoration.
