Description
DES HOULIÈRES (Antoinette). Poems by Madame and Mademoiselle Deshoulières. New edition, expanded to include several works. Brussels, Veuve Foppens, 1740. 8vo, glazed light calfskin, framed with a blind-stamped fillet, gilded coat of arms in the centre of the covers, smooth spines decorated with panels, gilded garlands and fleurons, title labels and volume numbers in red morocco, red edges, gilded decorations on the edges (contemporary binding). A fine edition adorned with a portrait engraved by L. Cause, a beautiful chiselled headpiece repeated in each volume, and woodcut headbands and tailpieces.  A precious copy bound with the coat of arms of Christophe de Klinglin (1690–1769), who served for over twenty years as First President of the Sovereign Council of Alsace. A faint grease stain on two covers; otherwise a fine, fresh copy. Olivier 477.
