BRILLAT-SAVARIN. *The Physiology of Taste*, with a foreword by Alphonse Karr. Paris, Furne, 1864. Large 8vo, red half-shagreen with corner pieces, gilt fillet along the edges, spine with raised bands and panels featuring gilt arabesques, gilt head (contemporary binding). 1 blank folio, 459 pp. – 7 plates, one as a frontispiece. New edition with illustrations by Bertall. The first edition was published in 1848 by de Gonet. A fine copy. Vicaire 19th c. does not specify the number of plates, nor does Vicaire Gastro 119 – Cagle 99 (1st edition) mention more than 5 plates. In the second edition, Cagle 99 lists a frontispiece and 6 plates.
