Description
CHATEAUBRIAND (François-René de). The Adventures of the Last Abencérage. Paris, Pelletan, 1897. Large 8vo, half-maroquin with corner pieces, ribbed spine, blind-stamped bands, gilt title, cover and spine preserved, gilt head, untrimmed (Cretté). “One of Vierge’s finest books, highly prized,” says Carteret. An illustrated edition featuring a portrait of the author engraved by Florian after a medal by David d’Angers, and 43 wood-engraved illustrations by Florian after Daniel Vierge, including 10 full-page plates.  An edition of 400 copies; this is one of the 100 printed on Marais vellum, complete with a set of the 44 illustrations.
