Quarto, tobacco-coloured morocco leather, mosaic-patterned French flag with gilded flagpole, finial and fringes on the front cover, mosaic-patterned border comprising three bands in the colours of the flag, gilded fillets and garlands, decorated ribbed spine, gilded interior lace, gilded fillets and guilloché patterns on the edges, original cover preserved, half-shagreen slipcase with edging, shagreen-edged slipcase (Courmont). 2 ff., portrait, 106 pp., 1 f., 4 plates.  An illustrated edition featuring a portrait by A. Gilbert, 4 plates by A. de Neuville and woodcut vignettes after Edmond Morin.  A luxurious edition with the text set within blue, white and red borders. “A sought-after edition on large-format paper”, according to Carateret Trésor IV, p. 104. One of seven copies on Chinese paper (no. 3) in an impressive patriotic mosaic binding.
