History of the Order of the Assassins.  Paris, Paulin, March 1833. 8vo, pink calfskin, covers framed with triple blind-stamped borders, gilt coats of arms in the centres, plain gilt spine, blind-stamped interior edges, marbled edges (Bourlier). 2 folios, 367 pp. First edition of the French translation, translated and expanded with notes by J. J. Hellert and P. A. de La Nourais. The original German edition was published in 1818. This is the first work published in the West on the Assassins sect, an essay drawn from chronicles and accounts in Persian, Arabic and Turkish—such as those by Ibn Khaldun, Jihannuma and Abulfeda—as well as a few Western sources.
