L'AFFICHARD (Thomas). *La Folette ou le Rhume*. A pleasant and interesting tale. Paris, Mesnier, 1733. In-12, lemon-coloured morocco, gilt fillet binding, ribbed spine with gilt decoration, gilt interior lace, gilt edges (Belz-Niédrée). 4ff., 147 pp., (1p.). A rare first edition of this short romance interwoven with cantatas, cantatilles and madrigals. Lycante and Marianne are in love, but Oronte, the young woman’s father, takes offence.  The Breton Thomas L’Affichard, born in Pont-Floch in 1698, arrived in Paris around 1725. He is best known as a playwright. His plays enjoyed some success during the reign of Louis XV.  See Levot: *Biogr. bretonne* I, 96, which does not mention this novel. A very fine copy. Included, by the same author: *Le Voyage interrompu*. Paris, Ribou, 1737. 2 volumes in one in-12 volume, grained calfskin, decorated spine (contemporary binding). First edition. Set of 2 volumes.
